In the fall of 2004 I started school at the University of Hawaii, as an MA candidate for Asian Studies. I took the beginning seminar in Asian Studies as well as a catch-up class in South-East Asian history. I also jumped right into modern Japanese, despite never having taken a formal course in it before.
